Abrupt Transitions between Prefrontal Neural Ensemble States Accompany Behavioral Transitions during Rule Learning
Daniel Durstewitzsend, Nicole M. Vittoz, Stan B. Floresco, Jeremy K. Seamanssend
This article indicated that understanding of new rules achieve suddenly instead of gradual learning. They use set shifting tast for rat, mimic Wisconsin card sorting test for human, and record extracellular signals. Then sorting the data to each neuron activity and analyze the properties of the population activities. They showed the properties changed transiently when the rat adjusted to a new rule. This may explains the mechanism of 'a-ha' experiments (moments of sudden insight.)
